Welcome. In 2007 a course of antibiotics changed my life. My name is David and that’s how my story with Fluoroquinolones began, and it’s a story shared by countless others. This blog isn’t just about me; it’s about a people bound by a common thread: adverse events from Fluoroquinolone (FQ) antibiotics. Here, you’ll find the oldest surviving FQ blog, still slowly pushing on because the need for support and understanding never fades. Join me as I travel through life with severe damage received after having an adverse event to a FQ antibiotic, Levaquin. This is a true grass root project where I advocate, educate, and especially share information, all with the hope of pushing for further research and a much needed change.

Every year, thousands live with the invisible scars of FQ antibiotics. These drugs, assumed “safe,” are dispensed carelessly, leaving healthy individuals with debilitating and enduring injuries. The worst part? These events can strike anyone, anytime, even months after the last pill. Drug companies and the FDA call them statistically insignificant, but the human cost tells a different story.

Fluoroquinolones are the Trojan horse of antibiotics, powerful, penetrating and promising relief while, for some, unleashing DNA driven havoc and disease. Thousands fall victim with many of them unaware of the cause of their problems. Their bodies battlegrounds for unseen damage that emerge hours, days, weeks, months or even years later. The FQ’s are masters at lurking in the shadows, often given prophylactically in procedures or for COVD. Even our pets are at risk. The medical community? Largely in the dark, their ignorance fueling the fire. But the FDA knows. They called it FQAD, the chronic anthem of suffering. Yet, they stand idle, leaving lives in ruins. At this time there is no cure that exists, no easy fix. But there is hope.

Navigating this maze alone can be terrifying. Hopefully, that’s where I can help, at least in a little way. This blog serves as a compass, guiding you through research, advocacy, and learning to push on despite living in the FQ’s shadow. Yes, the internet wilderness can be harsh, filled with conflicting paths of false hope and disappointment. But trust me, amidst the noise, there are other fellow travelers, sharing wisdom and solace.

Many people email me and ask how I am doing, please read me about page for up to date information.  I have been dealing with this adverse event for over fifteen years.  Although I was forced to work for a handful of years into my adverse events, I am now officially functionally disabled.  I have been diagnosed with drug induced mitochondrial depletion syndrome by Mayo Clinic (acquired).  This is a condition that is chronic and progressing.   I was able to take an early retirement and I successfully obtained disability as well.  Still, between my large family and my health struggles it takes a majority of my time.  I do like to communicate with those who are chronically suffering from adverse events to these drugs when I can, to let them know they are not alone and to share information. Again, this is a true grass roots blog that has no sponsors, is a little rough around the edges and not politically correct.
